Frequently Asked Questions
My family member or I don't have any experiences with horses. Is that a problem?
Not at all. All sessions are done at a pace the participant feels comfortable with, and we will teach you all you need to know about working with horses from the ground.
Do the sessions involve riding?
No, all our work with the horses is done from the ground. We want our horses to be willing participants in our sessions and we believe we can form the best bonds with the horses when we work with them at their level.
Are sessions ever cancelled due to weather?
Yes, as all our work is outdoors we do sometimes have to cancel due to weather. Sarah will endeavour to contact you 24 hours prior to your appointment time if it has to be cancelled.
Sessions will be cancelled if the forecast temperature (from the Bureau of Meteorology) is above 34 degrees at the time of your session, or if excessive rain or storms are forecast. Equine-assisted learning sessions can still go ahead if there is light rain. We will not cancel due to cold weather, so please wear appropriate warm clothing as needed.

If Tutoring Under The Trees sessions are cancelled due to weather, you may be offered the option of a substitute session at your residence, however this may incur travel costs.
How long is a session?
Equine-Assisted Learning sessions and Tutoring Under The Trees sessions are usually 45 minutes long.
However, session times can be altered to best meet the needs and learning style of the student. Contact us to discuss this further.
What does a session cost?
Equine-assisted learning sessions: $130
Tutoring Under The Trees sessions: $100

All sessions are conducted one-on-one with Sarah (and the herd, if applicable).

What happens if I need to cancel a session or am late to arrive?
If you arrive late, we will make the most of the time remaining and get the most from the session that we can. However, a full session fee will still be charged.

24 hours notice is required for cancellation at no charge. If you cancel with less than 24 hours notice, you will be charged half the cost of the session fee.
What ages do you work with?

We believe that everyone can benefit from these sessions, and we can accomodate different types of sessions depending on need. We are happy to take children as young as 5 years old.

Tutoring Under The Trees
These are literacy support sessions aimed at students in secondary school (Years 7-12). If you are seeking support for someone outside this age range, get in touch to see if we can meet your needs.
What do I or my child need to wear to a session?
Whatever is comfortable for you! Our only requirement is closed-in footwear for all sessions.
Our area is in a small valley and so can be colder in winter than the surrounding areas, so we'd recommend a jacket in case you feel the cold.
